With a wingspan of nearly 3 meters, the Japanese spider crab (Macrocheira kaempferi) is the largest crab in the world. Living in the deep waters of the North Pacific and able to live up to 100 years, this colossal marine arthropod feeds on everything from crustaceans to dead animals to plants, algae, and mollusks.
