In Margaux Williamson's paintings, fragments of romantic life are scattered on the canvas: beer cans, a dark forest, a black river, sometimes blurred, sometimes sharp, giving the paintings a richly chaotic effect. As we look at Williamson's seemingly disjointed assembly of objects, we seem to be getting in our own way, trying to establish order, revive a memory, or evoke an intrigue.
