Every year, the ants of a colony gather a tribute of food for a band of cruel grasshoppers. But Flik, a male ant with inventor skills, ruins the summer harvest and draws the wrath of Hopper, the leader of the vile orthoptera. Rejected by his colony, Flik sets out to find brave insects capable of standing up to Hopper. Due to a misunderstanding, he recruits the services of a troupe of unemployed acrobatic bugs who still manage to defend the colony.
