Classrooms where Afghan women are forbidden to learn, to the streets of a new country where their past seems erased, this piece tells the story of arrival, the loss of everything - career, home, family - and the struggle against linguistic barriers, cultural shock, systemic changes and discrimination. All of this, with the expectation of rebuilding a life from scratch, carrying the hope of the Canadian dream.
